Good day my new friends!
My name is Erika. I am a mom of four
of the most amazing kids! Three of them have moved up and out. My only son recently left the nest and headed to NAU!
This was emotionally draining way to begin the school year for me! My eldest daughter that is currently attending ASU studying to become a research psychologist So I do live in a house divided! My second born daughter that is full-time employeed at Glencroft Retirement Center and my darling youngest whom is focusing on the upcoming theater tryouts. She is an amazing actress and I am excited for her. (Told you they were amazing!)

Husband's company we also do
Property Management! |
I am in my final semester here at good ol'e GCC. I will be joining my daughter at ASU in the Spring. While I would like to be joining my son in the beauty of the pines, that simply can't happen because I have a JOB! Yes I am a full-time student at GCC and have a full-time job with my husband's company. Where I am the official bookkeeper! I really love working with my husband (we have been married for 20 years!). My husband is a broker and owns our business. He is a fabulous man and I love him more every single day. I am currently learning to speak German. My father is from Germany and well I thought it would be nice to speak with him in his native tongue. I am fluent in American Sign Language and hope that once I have mastered German, that I can move onto Japanese.
I also have worked extensively in the paper arts industry. Until they closed last summer, I worked with a magazine called Creating Keepsakes where I wrote primarily on design principles. My art work has been published more than forty times in various magazines. I have served as a design team member on numerous art teams. I am still active in the industry and enjoy writing and publishing education material for paper and fabric artist.

Me with my new hair cut! |
|
I lived about 10 minutes from Waikiki in Kahala |
I grew up in Honolulu Hawaii and went to Henry J Kaiser High School (sounds real Hawaiian doesn't it? - if it helps, the address was 511 Lunalilo Home Road.) I left Hawaii in my early twenties and met my husband in Arizona and have been here ever since. I have always been a writer and often get lost for hours tapping away on my keyboard developing new worlds and characters. That really is all there is to say about me. I look forward to learning more about each of you!
Here is a few of my recent works. I also want to begin a new art journal as part of this class. I hope to share photos as we go along!
Wow! I'm certainly impressed by your blog skills and everything you wrote and your family and your writing skills. One of my two daughters is in Ft. Collins at this very moment depositing her daughter at Colorado State to start her first semester of college. My daughter and her husband make their home in San Diego. Their son, 12 year old Connor is the only offspring left but he'll keep my daughter and her husband busy.
ReplyDeleteI have another daughter in Indiana; she has two sons, two German Shepherds and one cat. She is exploring relocation possibilities while her ex and his parents look after her two boys. She lived in Anchorage for 16 years and just couldn't handle another year. I have three sons. One is a Police Officer, one works for Chrysler in Indiana and the third lives here in Phoenix. None are in wanted, or in jail or drug users so thank heavens for that. I'm working on my CRW Certificate.
I've always wanted to learn how to speak German well ___ and perfect the pronunciation of Staatskapelle as well as understanding what it means. I studied Chinese for about three years, but since I have retired, I haven't kept up with it. I enjoyed looking at your art; you sure have some skills for that.
Looking forward to meeting you.
You're fabulous! Not only do I love that your writing has substance, but I love the fact that you have substance. It amazes me when you look at someone, or hear a name, and think you have an idea of who they could, only to be completely blindsided by their brilliance. I can't wait to see what you'll come up with as the semester goes on.
ReplyDeletei love your passsion for writing and creativity... i love the fab new hair cut... i think its very unique you grew up in hawaii
ReplyDeleteI can already tell I'm going to love your blog. You look too young for four grown kids, but have an awesome family! Now I wish I had a creative job like yours! You mentioned on mine you're old...not even. When I was full time at GCC over 6 years ago the median was around 28-30? I think lately I know more people around 10 years older than me who are pursuing their bachelor's (my boyfriend for one...he's 37, and many of his friends in school are close to his age). I'll be a lumberjack soon like your son but I am forever a Sun Devil...hope you enjoy your time at ASU :)
ReplyDeleteHi Erika! Like you I'm taking German right now but I took some in high school so it's pretty fresh in my mind. I have also taken two years of Japanese in high school and would recommend learning it because it's a whole different sentence structure and brings on a completely new view and understanding on how difficult language can be. Including these two languages I'm also taking sign language right now and think that it's awesome that you know it fluently. I'm also very intrigued on how you have kids a job and got to school because one of those things seem like a full plate. I am so excited to read your blog posts and see your perspective.
